Our Background
The Bahr el Ghazal Women for Peace and Development Initiative (BWPDI) was conceived to recognize this untapped potential. The initiative aims to amplify women’s voices from the Bahr el Ghazal region, empowering them to partake actively in peace-building and development processes. By equipping women with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources, the BWPDI seeks to transform them into agents of change, capable of steering their communities toward a future characterized by peace, unity, stability, and development.
The launch of the BWPDI is a testament to the belief that when women are empowered, they can become powerful drivers of societal transformation. It represents a commitment to fostering gender equality, promoting peace, and catalyzing sustainable development in South Sudan. The initiative serves as a beacon of hope, not just for the women of Bahr el Ghazal, but for all those committed to building a more peaceful, prosperous, and equitable South Sudan.
Our programmes are centred on rural vulnerable women, youth and girls and this because BWPDI believes that “if you educate a woman, you educate a nation”. In addition, women and girls are the worst affected categories of people in South Sudan in regard to poverty, education attainment, human rights violation and are usually marginalized in development programmes. BWPDI also believes that youth play a very key role in transforming societies and are regarded to be having proactive minds towards development and as well as being enthusiastic members of society. BWPDI core sectors of work include Gender& GBV prevention, Food Security &Livelihoods, WASH, Education, Health & Nutrition and Peace Building as these are the most development aspects that South Sudan needs to attain the sustainable development (SDGs).

Mission Statement
The mission of the Bahr el Ghazal for Peace and Development (BWPDI) is to create an environment of unity, stability, and growth in the Bahr el Ghazal region. We aim to do this by fostering understanding and cooperation among diverse communities, advocating for balanced socio-political and economic policies, implementing developmental initiatives that enhance living standards, and empowering women to take active roles in decision-making processes. We envision a community where every individual has the means to live a dignified life, free from conflict, and can contribute to the region's progress.
