The most conflict affected areas in Africa are also the most food insure with high illiteracy rates and poor health outcomes. In recognition of the fact that South Sudan is among the worst insured countries in Africa, BWPDI integrated peace building and conflict mitigation in its programmes. Armed Conflicts in South Sudan are diverse ranging from inter-tribal to political differences. Thus rural population has experienced the severe effects of these conflicts especially through mass violence, internal displacements, abductions, rape, torture and refugee movements, destruction of infrastructure as well as inadequacy of social amenities.
BWDPI approach to peace building and conflict mitigation is as follows:
Working with local communities through addressing the underlying causes of conflicts and building meaningful peace. As BWPDI subscribes to the notion that working with local communities on peace is “working with local people in solving national problems
Organizing regular community dialogues and peace festivals as a means of addressing early signs of conflicts and prevention of conflicts.
Extension of psychosocial support to victims of conflicts as a means of facilitating healing and reconciliation.
